The Chapman Family

'There's a time and a place for this kind of brash showmanship but it's not here, and it's not now', thundered the Leeds Music Scene guide in 2008. With equipment often left damaged in a heap onstage, The Chapman Family's live showcases of their folk and hardcore punk-inspired tunes are as brutal, singalong, and infectious as an ecstasy-fuelled bout of swine flu and we think that's no bad thing.

Yet another graduate from Offset '08 New Bands Tent to enjoy critical acclaim, the four-piece from Teeside were this year selected to play Glastonbury's BBC Introducing Stage, and after a whirlwind year, will be returning to perform on main stage. Passion for the band's art-punk sounds have led to inclusions on compilation CDs for Dance To The Radio, Artrocker, and NARC Magazine, as well as airtime from XFM's John Kennedy, 'Single of the Week' for Steve Lamacq, a Radio One session and lots of rightfully excited exposure in NME, including the magazine's top ten tips for 2009. The band released limited edition single 'Kids' back in April, a dark, noisy, paranoid record that reinforced their rapacious cult following.
