Telepathe
Eerie and hypnotic, danceable and primitive – Telepathe’s sound is hard to pin down but easy to fall in love with. The duo of Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais had recorded a sizable back catalogue of sinister rhythms before entering the studio with Dave Sitek and releasing one of 2009’s best full-lengths – the epic ‘Dance Mother’
It was the 2006 EP ‘Farewell Forest’ that introduced their chaotic brand of dance music to the world, and they built on that sound with increasing pop sensibility on ‘Sinister Militia’ (2007). Including some killer remixes, ‘Sinister Militia’ was a fantastic primer for the fully realised world of the debut full-length.
When TV On The Radio’s David Sitek offered Telepathe a month in his studio, the chance to make a proper, definitive statement of a record presented itself. The result, ‘Dance Mother’, was a smash and rightly so. Still avant-garde, it bridged the trancey side with the dance music they always threatened to make. Not simple, but rewarding, and an album that stayed on many people’s players for the rest of 2009 and beyond.
The band are releasing a new album this year, and to make up for their scandalously small number of UK shows they’ve played so far we’re bringing them over to give you a taster of the ace new tracks.
