Electricity in our Homes

Electricity in our Homes, Offset 2008
Formed and based in London, Electricity In Our Homes are utilitarian in sound and vision. Taking inspiration from the best of British DIY, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth and Prince, they wear identical minimal attire and their live shows are an exercise in conciseness (they have been known to play ten-minute sets), often teetering on the edge of chaos.
Since their debut show in May 2007, the trio of Paul Linger, Charles Boyer and Bonnie Carr have toured the UK extensively, picking up fans along the way, some from the unlikeliest of places (Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess hailed them as “the new Post Punk renaissance” and went so far as to have them open for a recent Charlatans’ live show).
Joining 4AD for a one-off single, “Gymnastics” / “Motorbike”, the trio will release the follow-up to last year’s double A-side 7″ single “We Thought It Was But It Wasn’t” (a Too Pure Singles Club release).
Discordant vocals battle with frenzied guitars in “Gymnastics” whereas the disjointed B-side “Motorbike” changes pace as often as the aforementioned mode of transport changes gear. Both songs are bold and unremitting, possessing a lyrical sense of tongue-in-cheek and yet, at just over four minutes in length for the pair, it never allows time for boredom.
