Bombay Bicycle Club
We were really very excited to have Bombay Bicycle Club at Offset 2009. Not just for their romantic, restless shoegaze, jagged guitars and hungry vocals, but for their live performance - ‘flabbergasting’ (Drowned in Sound). Crouch End’s finest are probably getting bored of the ongoing acclaim for debut album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose, which was released in July (Island Records), and produced, at his request, by Jim Abbis.
But the heaps of praise don’t look to be ending anytime soon: ‘Bombay Bicycle Club’s members are only 16 years old and yet their technical proficiency and songwriting ability is masterful, their tunes twisting and turning through codas and choruses. It’s frightening, that’s what it is. Watching children nail something so perfectly. Making music that’s so fresh and of its time that you can only hope they’ve managed it subconsciously’ (Drowned in Sound again. They really were flabbergasted).
